Sports, Health and Management:

Formerly known as Sports, Health and Management. Starting next academic year, the new name for the bachelor programme Sports, Health and Management will be Sport Studies.

Hanze UAS is part of a conglomerate of eight national universities of applies sciences, that have levelled the playing field of sports education. To provide prospects, current students, stakeholders and the professional field with a less ambiguous message concerning the content of our programme, all sport related studies within the Netherlands have changed their name accordingly.

Sport Studies at Hanze UAS in Groningen is a three year bachelor's programme that teaches students to be a skilled sports professional. If you are passionate about sports and interested in the health industry, Sport Studies is definitely the programme for you!

Programme overview

The Institute of Sport Studies offers a three year bachelor's programme, made up of 180 European Credits. The programma prepares you to be an innovative professional in the dynamic field of sport, health and management. You learn to put health on the agenda of individuals, organisations and society at large. You develop influental skills and manage related projects and organisations but you are also capable of coaching and offering advice to others. These broad competences are reflected in the programme. Therefore, you will acquire a wide range of competences in which subjects like policy, entrepreneurship and marketing alternate with subjects like behaviour and physical activity.

You also have the opportunity to follow specific courses for just one semester as well. For example through a minor and/or as an exchange student. The following semesters are offered:

  1. Health Enhancing Physical Activity (first semester academic year)

  2. Policy and Entrepreneurship (first semester academic year)

Career opportunities

Students who have finished the Sport Studies programme have a large range of possible career options. Since the programme focuses on a wide perspective in terms of subjects concerning sport, health and management, students can expect to find or create jobs within this wide area. Possible jobs will focus on for example training and coaching, policy, management, consultancy, entrepreneurship, life style coaching and healthy ageing. Many students, finishing their Sport Studies programme, actually create new jobs themselves. Students develop a large range of competences, and function very well in positions that involve many different responsibilities.
