Program Description

Program Summary

The Bachelor of Science (BS) degree program in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of the Sciences, one of the few colleges in the U.S. to offer this program, provides you with a foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and pharmaceutics to prepare you for a successful pharmaceutical career.

You’ll sharpen your technical skills through nine laboratory-based courses and faculty-directed undergraduate research projects in a variety of biotechnology and pharmaceutical facilities. And you’ll use these skills to develop new medications, maybe even the next breakthrough drug.

Why Choose the University of the Sciences?

  1. Gain theoretical understanding and laboratory-based skills to develop, formulate, manufacture, and test drugs and cosmetics.
  2. Our flexible curriculum allows you to choose an area of specialization or pursue a minor in a specific discipline.
  3. Working closely with faculty, you’ll conduct undergraduate research that you can then present at our annual USciences Research Day.
  4. The Explorers and Scholars in Science Program allow selected first-year students to conduct eight weeks of full-time research with a faculty mentor during the summer following their first undergraduate year. The program includes a stipend, and scholars present at a summer research symposium.
  5. Enjoy unparalleled preparation for medical school: You’ll complete the basic courses required for admission to medical school in your first two years.
  6. We are located in the heart of the biotechnology and health science industry, surrounded by more than 250 medical facilities and within two hours of 75% of all U.S. pharmaceutical firms.
  7. Our long-standing relationships with many companies and organizations create numerous choices for internships and job opportunities.
  8. Lessen the total time and cost to complete a USciences MS or Ph.D.—the integrated graduate credit program allows qualified undergraduates to take up to 15 additional credits of graduate coursework at no extra cost.

The demand for graduates with a BS degree in pharmaceutical sciences is presently high and growing; excellent entry-level positions are available in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, government, specialty dosage form development laboratories, and biotechnology companies. Areas include research, product development, manufacturing, quality control, and regulatory affairs.

The program has articulations with several companies, such as SigmaPharm, for internships. The program also provides lab training in pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology, undergraduate research credits, and paid research opportunities. With hands-on lab training, students can obtain internships from notable companies, such as Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and GSK.

Funding/Scholarship Opportunities

At USciences, we're investing in you—scholarships are available in the form of merit-based awards of up to $10,000 per year, which may be awarded to eligible undergraduate students upon acceptance to the University.

The BS Pharmaceutical Sciences program provides a strong basic sciences foundation in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and pharmaceutics; integrates the essential contributions of the humanities, social sciences, and communications; and utilizes laboratory-based courses to develop and refine research skills. Graduates will have the background to understand how physicochemical and pharmaceutical principles are applied in formulation development, manufacturing, and animal and human testing of different types of drug delivery systems.
