An associate's degree can be completed in two years of study in a specialized field. This program is formulated to meet the needs of either mid-career adults or for students pursuing an entry-level job. Students can select the major or option that matches their profession or expertise.

What is an Associate of Applied Science? An AAS degree prepares a student for a job post graduation. Associate’s degrees in arts or sciences lay the groundwork for an individual to transfer credits to a four-year university. An AAS is primarily for those who do not plan to pursue a higher degree, but rather, prefer to begin working as soon as possible. Some of the specializations include business administration, computer science, nursing, culinary arts, healthcare, baking and more.

There are many benefits to earning an AAS. Since the program involves more laboratory work and hands-on discussion instead of writing papers and listening to lectures, it is particularly beneficial for individuals who are more hands-on learners. It also provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to begin working as soon as possible after graduation. The courses prepare students for jobs in their specialized fields and give them the knowledge of job competency.

The tuition fees for an AAS degree may be less than other degrees since it generally takes less than two years to complete. However, the registration costs will vary depending on the institution, field of study and where the school is located.

This degree is more geared toward learning the skills necessary to perform a job effectively, rather than academic studies and research papers. There are several employment opportunities available for graduates, including criminal justice positions, or careers as a behavioral teaching assistant, auto technician and more. The program can give students an in-depth knowledge of their specialized field of interest and show an employer that they are serious about the prospective job and have the necessary qualifications.

Many institutions offer courses both full time and part time so students have a choice in their schedule. If you are interested in an AAS, it is encouraged that you search for your program below and contact directly the admission office of the school of your choice by filling in the lead form.
