Introduction
Doctoral study program (Ph.D.) bioethics is concerned about ethical questions accompanying health and medical care from diagnostics and therapy through prevention and experimentation to transplantation of organs and tissues. Pivotal themes include informed consent, the dignity of the human being, and health or quality of life. Other fields are the normative facet of genetics and stem cells, collection, and protection of information regarding patients, and just allocation of means in health care. In addition, bioethics has a tight affinity to some further disciplines like the philosophy of medicine, moral psychology, neuroethics, etiology of humans, and medical law. Regarding method, bioethics belongs to philosophy while the standard span of study is 4 years.
According to article 3, paragraph 1, second sentence of the Code of Admission Procedure of Charles University, this program of study is offered without specialization.

Career Opportunities
The doctor of bioethics can research independently at the academic level, act as a teacher of bioethics and general ethics in pedagogical and didactic areas at all levels of schools up to university, and can also work in clinical practice as a member of the local or central ethics committee and as an ethics consultant in hospital. Another possible area of application is working at the Ministry of Health in drafting legislation or in the health insurance company as a consultant.
