Introduction
This degree program focuses on the major dimension of Asian/Oriental Medicine: Acupuncture and its relationship with integrative medicine. Acupuncture is not just a tool or technique; it is part of an entire way of thinking and a system of medicine. Learning the Acupuncture tool without the whole medicine is extremely limited and risky without understanding all that is involved in diagnosis, skill, location of specific points, knowledge of depth insertion and angle, the timing of treatment, point prescription, and more. This is why learning to become a skilled Acupuncturist takes at least 3-4 years, with more learning over one’s lifetime of practice. Indeed, the doctor of the future will wield the ancient needle with the wisdom of the whole medicine.
Students taking this degree program will be prepared to use Acupuncture, Cupping, Moxibustion, Tui Na, and Asian/Oriental nutritional counselling in their practice. The foundational theory for Asian/Oriental medicine is integral to these skills, and students are prepared to achieve competency in all of these areas. The latter half of this program focuses on the clinic experience. Acupuncture students complete over 900 hours of student clinical internship under an experienced Professional Licensed Acupuncturist (L.Ac.).
MSAC students finish on average in 3-4 years, with a maximum time of 6 years.
