PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics

Student with a B.S. degree from biology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, medical pharmacy and agriculture department, dental, medical and veterinary schools can apply for the Master’s program in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department at IZTECH. Students with an M.S. degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, physics, mathematics, bioengineering, computer engineering, electrical and electronic engineering, food engineering, chemical engineering, medical pharmacy, medicine, veterinary, agriculture and biotechnology are eligible to apply for the Doctorate degree program.


  • Analysis of plant diversity, plant tissue culture applications, the analysis of genetic control on plant diseases and abiotic stress; quality control of economically significant agricultural plants including tomato, cotton, eggplant.

  • Identification of genes and mechanisms that provide plants resistance under stress conditions due to environmental factors

  • Identification of beneficiary enzymes and cloning of their genes from bacteria.

  • Effect of antimicrobial agents on the physiology and genetics of microorganisms.

  • Discovery and cloning of novel genes coding industrially important enzymes.

  • Investigation of the effects of retroviral regulatory genes on primate cells.

  • Investigating the mechanisms of the role of microRNAs in gene regulation.

  • Determination of the role of T-lymphocyte during immune response, investigating the molecular mechanisms of inflammatory diseases.

  • Investigating the role of gap junctions and connexins in epidermal differentiation mechanisms during wound healing and disease.

  • Oxidative stress, cellular senescence & aging, drug resistance, boron biology.

  • Molecular mechanisms of breast tumorigenesis and metastasis.

  • Molecular biology of cancer and stem cells for regenerative medicine.

  • Design and fabrication of nano-devices that mimic the cellular microenvironment; biophysics and micro environmental control of breast cancer cell adhesion, motility and invasion.

  • Investigating the function of lysosomal proteins using mouse models.

  • Development of new computational methods for the analysis of biological data.
