In this program- Medical Office Assistant Diploma, students will learn how to organize a medical office, as well as be trained to prepare and administer basic medical office tests. This program upholds the highest possible level of standards and it keeps current with the industry and employers requirements.

Program Objectives

Students will learn how to assess and prioritize patient
appointment requests, and respond to patients’ basic questions about their medical condition and prescriptions. In addition, students will learn general office procedures and administration including the use of medical billing software package. Students will also receive First Aid and CPR training and certification.

Career Opportunities

Upon graduation, students are prepared to begin a career as an Admitting Clerk, Emergency Room Admitting Clerk, Medical Secretary, Medical Transcriptionist, Medical Receptionist, Medical Billing Clerk or Medical Office Assistant.

Admissions Prerequisites


Standard Admission


Students must meet ONE of the following criteria:

Alberta high school diploma, verified by transcript, with 50% or better in Grade 12 English and a Grade 12 Mathematics, or non-Alberta equivalent.

OR

Successful completion of the General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.) with a standard score of 450 or better in English and Mathematics and ALL of the following:


· Successful interview with school admissions department;

· Provide proof of a negative reaction to a TB skin test or a chest x-ray with a note from a physician stating that you are not contagious. Cost will be borne by the Applicant;
· A note from a physician stating that you are mentally and physically able to perform duties normally associated with your chosen field;
· A clear criminal record search. Cost will be borne by the Applicant;
· Signature in the MOA Acknowledgement Statement.

Mature Admission


Students must meet ALL of the following criteria:


· Out of school for two years;
· Be at least 18 years of age prior to admission;
· Applicants must successfully pass the Reeves College Admissions Test;
· Thirty-three credits towards an Alberta high school diploma, verified by transcript, with 50% or better in Grade 10 English and in Grade 10 Mathematics, or non-Alberta equivalent;
· Successful interview with school admissions department;
· Provide proof of a negative reaction to a TB skin test or a chest x-ray with a note from a physician stating that you are not contagious. Cost will be borne by the Applicant;
· A note from a physician stating that you are mentally and physically able to perform duties normally associated with your chosen field;
· A clear criminal record search. Cost will be borne by the Applicant;

Saskatchewan Mature Admission


· Students must have at least 8 credits towards a high school diploma with a 50% or better in Grade 10 Math and Grade 10 English.
