MSc in Occupational Health

This programme is organised by the Institute of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (IOEM) at the University of Birmingham. It is designed to meet the needs of postgraduate training in the prevention and control of work-related ill health and to understand the issues of ill health and its effect on work in the 21st century. It is open to graduates with relevant first degrees and those with appropriate work experience. This includes doctors, nurses, hygienists, and health and safety personnel.

The programme has been established for over 15 years and more than 200 students from ten different countries have now completed it. It is based on a multidisciplinary approach to tackling a wide range of occupational health issues and is accredited by both the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) for graduate membership


Duration: 1 year full-time, 2 years part-time

You should have a relevant first degree, although those with relevant work experience or appropriate expertise will be considered.

English language requirements

You can satisfy our English language requirements in two ways:

  • by holding an English language qualification to the right level
  • by taking and successfully completing one of our English courses for international students

English to IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 6.0 in each component) or TOEFL Internet based 88 overall with no less than no less than 21 in Reading, 20 in Listening, 22 in Speaking, 21 in Writing

2014/15

UK/EU students:
MSc £5940 / PG Dip £3960 (plus living expenses/hotel costs if necessary)

Non UK/EU students:
Full-Time - MSc £17355 (plus living expenses)

Scholarships may be available. International students can often gain funding through overseas research scholarships, Commonwealth scholarships or their home government.
