Graduate Diploma in Laboratory Medicine
Through this program, you’ll gain a professional qualification that will prepare you for work in diagnostic pathology. You’ll be immersed in the major disciplines of laboratory medicine.
As a graduate, you’ll be well placed for employment as a medical scientist in hospitals and diagnostic pathology laboratories.
This program is suitable for those who have graduated from biomedical science programs or general science programs that have a biological science focus.
Due to the requirement to do prerequisite courses before you embark upon your major discipline, most of our students prefer the 2-year part-time option. (International onshore students can only study full-time.)
The part-time program can start in February or July. The full-time program starts in February. Midyear places are available.
The Graduate Diploma consists of 96 credit points and there’s a minimum requirement of 1 major discipline stream. You’ll study courses like:
- Clinical Biochemistry
- Medical Microbiology
- Transfusion and Transplantation Science.
It’s most likely you’ll work as a medical scientist in diagnostic pathology or in medical research.
Medical scientists work in hospital laboratories, private pathology laboratories, state health laboratories and universities.
In larger hospitals and private laboratories, medical scientists usually specialise in one of the professional disciplines.
