Developing a Culture of Compassionate Care - Advanced Professional Development [Level HE7] part-time

This module will enable you to examine the concepts of care, compassion and culture and their effects upon performance and care delivery within different settings and fields of health and social care. The underpinning value of human caring will be examined and includes professionalism, compassion, values and behaviours.

You will also engage with the concepts of wellbeing, mindfulness, resilience and compassion fatigue, satisfaction and self. The importance of empathy, dignity and respect of health and social care service users, including the importance of societal perceptions will be explored.

Indicative Content:

  • Nursing in a contemporary society: history and definitions

  • Policy drivers such as: DH (2013) CNO strategy - Developing a Culture of Compassionate Care; DH (2013) Francis Report; RCN (2012) Willis Report; NHS Constitution.

  • Values and behaviours, compassion, communication, courage, commitment, competency, care, advocacy, autonomy, empathy, dignity and respect

  • Professionalism, professional regulation and accountability

  • Conformity, deviance and culture

  • Change theories.

The learning outcomes of this course have been mapped against the Knowledge and Skills Framework (KSF).

Entry requirements

You should have previously studied some Level HE6 modules in education, early years or social care.

Previous work or voluntary experience in a relevant field is also required.

You will be interviewed as part of the application process.

If English is not your first language you will also normally need IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent). If you do not have the required English level, you can study English with us from IELTS 4.0 (or equivalent).
