The modular structure of the medical curriculum spans a total of 5 years followed by an internship of one year, PHASE I, also called the Introductory Medical Sciences, constitutes the 1st Year MBBS. Seven modules integrated on the basis of themes constitute PHASE I. A barrier examination will be conducted at the end of PHASE I, a prerequisite for the organ system based modules in PHASE II. PHASE II spans over 2nd and 3rd Year MBBS. The ten modules are integrated on the basis of the organ systems in PHASE II. A Problem Based Learning (PBL) week is nested within each of the modules. Clinical teaching is introduced in this phase as the Basic Clinical Skills Module which will run parallel to the Organ System Modules. In the 2nd year, skills relevant to each system will be introduced in the respective modules in the safe environment of the Simulation Laboratory. A barrier examination will be held at the end of Phase II. PHASE III spans over the next two years of 4th and 5th Year MBBS. It will have a Multi-system Module dealing with themes and topics that cut across multiple organ systems and disciplines running parallel to the clinical clerkship rotations in Surgery and Medicine and their allied disciplines, Pediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. The theoretical component of teaching in the clinical phase will be sequenced on the basis of organ systems. A qualifying examination will be held at the end of PHASE III. The successful students will be admitted to the internship program. The one-year Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship (CRRI) will provide the graduates on-the-job training under close supervision in the major areas of medicine and surgery. The graduates will be awarded the degree of MBBS on satisfactory completion of their internship. The MBBS program was awarded Accreditation Eligible Classification Status (initial recognition) in June 2004 by the Commission for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research the degree is recognized by the Ministry of Health, UAE. He/ She should develop an attitude and practice personal and professional values necessary for the achievement of high standards of medical practice. This should enable him to carry out independently the responsibilities of a physician and to develop further knowledge and skills in order to adapt to the changes in the practice of medicine throughout his professional career. Admission Requirements Applicants shall meet all criteria for admission into respective programs offered by the University as laid down in the Standards (2011) published by the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research (MOHE&SR), UAE. The applicant must have completed a minimum of 12 years of education in school and passed subjects in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Higher Secondary school. The applicants from UAE educational system must have secured an aggregate of 80% or above marks as per UAE Secondary School Education Standards. The applicants from Non-UAE educational systems must have secured an aggregate equivalent to UAE 80% or above [as per International Grade Conversion Table]. Applicants for the MBBS program from the Indian sub-continent educational system must have a minimum of 60% or above [First Division] in the Higher secondary School Examination. Applicants for all other programs a minimum of 50% or above [Second Division] in the Higher secondary School Examination. Students who pursued their Higher / Senior Secondary School Education as per UK system must have studied at least two of the three science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in ‘AS' level or ‘A' level provided they have passed in all the three subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) in ‘O' level. The minimum grade requirement is B in at least two subjects in ‘AS' level or C in at least two subjects in ‘A' level. Students of Indian nationality who pursued UK education system should have studied all the three science subjects (Physics, Chemistry & Biology) in ‘A' level. Applicants from the International Baccalaureate (IB) educational system must have a score of 28 points or above provided they have passed all the three science subjects in Grade 10. Applicants with American Diploma must have a score of 80% or above provided they have scored a minimum of 550 in Molecular Biology in the SAT II examination. All applicants must complete 17 years of age on or before the 31st of December of the year of admission and shall not be more than 28 years of age. Recognition/Affiliation: Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC) Eligibility criteria for MBBS/BDS program The candidate should have passed the intermediate science (FSc) examination (medical group) securing at least 60% marks in aggregate, unadjusted, from a Pakistani university or an equivalent examination of a board of secondary education in Pakistan. Or Any other examination of a foreign university or examining body (A levels etc.) which in scope and standard is found equivalent to the intermediate science F.Sc (Pre Medical Group) examination (medical group) of a Pakistani university or board of secondary education. Such candidates will have to furnish, along with their application, an equivalence certificate from the inter-board chairman of committee (IBCC). However, equivalence certificates of such applicants will not be accepted who have not studied physics, chemistry, biology and English in 11th and 12th grade. Or The candidate should have passed a higher examination of a Pakistani university with biological sciences (BSc) after FSc in medical group, securing 60% marks (in both degrees) in aggregate, unadjusted, from a Pakistani university or an equivalent examination. Entrance Test: Candidates are required to take entrance test taken by provincial government authority nominated by federal government i.e. UHS (University of Health Sciences Lahore) entry test (MCAT) for Punjab, ETEA test for KPK etc. If no centralized entry test for admission to medical and dental colleges is arranged by the federal government or any agency nominated by the federal government, then the college will arrange its own entry test. If the college does not take its own test, the marks secured in the entrance test exam of the examining body will be accepted. Admission for expatriates (Pakistani students living abroad) Pakistani nationals living abroad who meet the eligibility criteria mentioned above are eligible to take the entry test. If they do not take the entry test, they can alternatively take the SAT II test with minimum score of 550. If the medium of instruction in that country is other than English, they will also have to take TOEFL with a minimum score of 500 or IELTS with a minimum score of 5.5. They are eligible for both open merit seats and the reserved seats for expatriates. However entry test is mandatory for admission on open merit seat. Admission for international students (Non Pakistanis) Foreign nationals are also eligible for admission, subject to the merit determined by the college based on FSc or equivalent (A levels / 12th grade) examination and the SAT II score. They will not be required to take the entry test. However, they will have to furnish the SAT II score of 550. • If the medium of instruction in that country is other than English, they will also have to take TOEFL with a minimum score of 500 or IELTS with a minimum score of 5.5. They must apply through their foreign office. They will only be admitted against the reserved seats for foreign students provided they meet the selection criteria. Foreign nationals shall complete the online application form, take its print and forward the application to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of Pakistan, Islamabad, requesting them for grant of clearance to the candidate and subsequently forwarding their application to Ministry of Education who after completing the formalities shall forward the case to Islamic International Medical College. It would be advisable if foreign applicants send their applications through their own Government Embassy/High Commission in Islamabad, Pakistan. Foreign nationals will need a student visa to enter Pakistan for studies, once their admission is confirmed. An overseas applicant cannot seek admission in any educational institution in Pakistan with a Tourist or Visit Visa and is liable to be deported by the Government of Pakistan as per regulations, for which College will not bear any responsibility.
