Bachelors in Biomedical Science in Penang Malaysia. The Biomedicine program is a 4 years or 8 semesters full time program. At the end of the program, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Health Science (Biomedicine). The program is multidisciplinary in nature and allows students to explore the latest information and technology in the fields of Biomedical Sciences. It encompasses all aspects of laboratory diagnosis, disease prevention and research in the fields of Biomedical Sciences. Industrial training, Biomedical Practicum and Research Project are introduced in the final stage of the studies to equip the students with the knowledge and skills in the diagnostic and clinical laboratory, disease prevention and research fields. This program is carefully designed to cater for the manpower requirements of both the private and public sectors of the nation. The curriculum takes cognizance of the need to be proactive in its approach, whereby curricula of institutions from the US, Europe and Australia were used as benchmarks. This is to ensure that the curriculum is of quality and of high standards capable of producing graduates who are competent and globally competitive. Students of the Biomedicine Program are to complete a total of 140 credit units before they can graduate. History This program was started in the 2000/2001 academic session with the initial intake of 30 students. The intake has been increased in a gradual manner, in which the total number of students depend on the availability of teaching and research facilities. Philosophy At the School of Health Sciences, we are committed in producing a capable work force with strong fundamental knowledge and substantial practical and research skills and also receptive to their environment especially to the school needs and understanding of health issues and services. Objectives To produce graduates who are equipped with a strong fundamental knowledge of biomedical sciences, which provide the foundation for self-improvement in the future. To produce graduates who are sensitive and responsible towards the society, culture, and environment. To produce graduates who have excellent laboratory and analytical skills for clinical, industrial, and research settings. To produce graduates with adequate research skills that would enable them to be competent post-graduate students or scientists.
