Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting

Southern Technical College’s Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting can help you prepare for a career in the healthcare field. For many, working in the healthcare field isn’t just a dream – it’s a calling. If this sounds like you, our Medical Assisting Associate’s degree program is a great way to get started in the healthcare field.

This Medical Assisting program is designed to expose you to both the administrative and clinical aspects of a healthcare environment, and includes courses in medical theory and terminology, clinical procedures, medical billing, and anatomy and physiology. Medical Assistants work closely with doctors and are often the main point of contact with a patient. Medical Assistants play an important role in a well-managed medical office and have a variety of responsibilities.

In this Medical Assisting program, you’ll participate in clinical laboratory classes, where you can apply the knowledge you have learned and build real-world skills for today’s employers. You will also participate in a mandatory externship, which offers further opportunities to apply learned skills and competencies. Our hands-on medical assistant training will separate you from your peers and help give you the experience to succeed in a new medical assisting career.

Upon successful completion of the Medical Assisting Associate’s degree program, graduates may pursue entry-level employment as medical assistants with private physicians, health clinics, and other healthcare facilities. Graduates of this program may also apply to sit for the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) certification examinations.
